Cutters, Slower Balls & Knuckle Balls

6 min read•3/19 sections

Speed change without telegraphing the change.

Off-cutters and leg-cutters are -bowlers' spinners — finger-rolled at release to take 15–20 km/h off the speed. Andrew Flintoff and Vernon Philander used them as -takers on slow tracks.

Back-of-the-hand slower balls (Dwayne Bravo, Jasprit Bumrah) reverse the wrist position late and produce a 30–40 km/h drop.

Knuckle balls (Zaheer Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar) are gripped between bent index and middle fingers — no spin, low rebound, and brutal in the death.
