Power vs Timing

5 min read•0/19 sections

Bat speed at impact is everything.

Exit velocity off the bat is governed by bat speed at the contact , contact location ( is 6–10 cm above the ), and how solidly the wrists are cocked.

A timed shot at 110 km/h bat speed travels farther than a muscled shot at 130 km/h that misses the by 2 cm — Brian Lara's straight drives went further than many sloggers' heaves for this reason.

Big hitters generate bat speed from torso rotation, not arms — see Andre Russell, Glenn Maxwell, AB de Villiers.
