Back-Foot Defence

Defensive shot played off the back foot to a short-of-length ball, bat vertical and angled down with soft hands.

Foundation — the first thing every player learns; the basis of every advanced variation.

Back foot moves back and across so the head ends over middle stump; front foot tucks behind.

Standing tall instead of crouching kills the chance to play under the rising ball — head-still drills with a ball machine on a hard length.
